The formal Chemical Technology-Paint Technology degree education in India was started during 1964 with “B.Sc. (Chem. Tech.) – Paint Technology”, of three year duration. In 1991 the 3 years B.Tech course after B.Sc. was changed to 4 years B.Tech course after I. Sc. (10+2), at par with other Engineering and Technology courses. There are Ph. D. program also in the Department. The Paint Technology Department remained joined with Oil Technology Department for a very long time. The twin department used to be known as Oil and Paint Technology Department. After the status of University, the new Department Chemical technology – Paint Technology was formed on 9th January 2017, and Professor PK.Kamani was appointed as the first Head of the Department. Presently Professor Arun Maithani is heading The Department.
The department of paint technology aspires to achieve excellence in teaching-learning, research and innovation in Paint and allied areas.
The mission of the department of Chemical Technology- Paint Technology are
M1 : To develop state of the art facilities to impart technical knowledge and skill to the graduate students for paint and allied industries and research organizations
M2 : To be a center of research and innovation for betterment of society in sustainable manner.
M3 : To develop state-of-the-art technologies for testing, training and consultancy for industry and society.
M4 : To cultivate strong ethical values to be a successful professionals and to become life-long learners.

PEO3 : Serve the industry to meet the challenges in terms of quality assurance and standardization to withstand the global competitiveness.
PEO4 : Discharge duties with professional attitudes and ethics.
The students of the Paint Technology Department, are endowed with the inherent attributes of Excellence and Perfection. The department has undoubtedly been a centre of excellence for learning in the country. There is a close relationship among students, faculty members and industries. The faculty regularly provides technical updates regarding the latest industrial trends. The students are given research oriented working projects at UG level. They are motivated for paper writing, presentation in seminars, symposium, conferences etc. to develop their professional perception. The department has sculpted numerous engineers, who had proved their mettle by becoming the souls and roots of various industries in the field of research in the country and abroad, and are repatriating credit and fame to the department.
Various programs are designed to impart knowledge, and strengthen concepts and intellectual skills through course work, seminars and project/ thesis work and cater to the needs of industry, R&D organizations, and educational institutions. The department maintains a close touch with other National and International educational Institutions & industries and has accomplished several research & development projects in collaboration with them.
There are more than 100% placement at UG level at various applications ( Maruti, Honda, Hero motors, Hyundai, TVS, Volkswagen, Tata motors, Railways etc., ) and manufacturing (Asian Paints, Kansai Nerolac, PPG, Sherwin Williams, Berger Paints, Indigo Paints, etc.) industries. The students graduating from the department are having the calibre of putting their own start-up after 2-3 years industrial exposure also. Further to add, the department is proud of having the students of high calibre as most students go abroad for higher education MS, Ph.D. MBA, M. Tech etc. Many students have completed their higher education from Eastern Michigun University USA. The department is also having the Scholarship from Asian Paints Charitable Trust Mumbai and every year the 3-5 poor students with high rank are given full scholarship. There is a National level Association PACT (Paint and Coating Technologists’ Association of India) in the department having more than 700 members (Alumni) associated with premier industries who provide support to the students as well as department in various manner e.g. delivering expert lectures to educate & update the students, supporting in placement and training etc. There are number of activities organised under the banner of PACT, e.g. seminars, workshops, quizzes, presentations interaction with industries etc.
The department is well equipped with Laboratory equipment of general testing and sophisticated instrumental testing along with pilot plant on powder coating application, spray application, resin manufacturing and also paint, putty, past & ink manufacturing etc. The students are given personal attention to perform testing & evaluation, preparation of products etc. using theses apparatus/equipment/instruments. The students of the department undergo Industrial training during summer vacation for 8 weeks after completing 6th Semester (3rd Year B.Tech.) and will undergo one semester project work 7th/8th semester in premier paint manufacturing and application industries e.g. Asian Paints, PPG, KNPL, Valspar Coatings, Berger, Nippon, Akzonobel, British Paints Tata Motors, Maruti-Suzuki, Volkswagen, Hero Moto Corp., TVS, Mahindra, Honda Cars etc.
The department conducts training program on paint manufacturing, paint application for various industries & institutes for their skilled and semiskilled workers to develop their skill e.g. TVS Motors, Samsung, BHEL, Tata Pigments Ltd. In addition, the workshops are also organized time to time to train the semi skilled, skilled, educated unemployed youths, BPL youngsters etc. The department is government recognized for providing the certificates and test reports to various government and private agencies. The materials (paint, varnish, raw materials) are tested and evaluated. The consultancy and certificates are provided by experience faculty members of the department.
The department is having three regular faculty members and three expert faculty members from industries/institution in addition frequent expert lectures from renowned personals from Industries and Institution and also of Entrepreneurs are arranged. The faculty members are supposed to increase on increasing strength of the students and on start of PG program.

2. Mr. M.I. Khan had developed “Automobile Clear coat using polyester and acrylic resin along with silicone touch” in2016-17&2017-18
3. Dr. P.K. Kamani had developed “Low cost acrylic distemper based on cow dung” 2016-17 & 2017-18.
4. Dr. Arun Maithanni had developed “Thermoplastic road marking paints” in 2016-17 & 2017-18.
5. Dr. Kamani has developed mono-coat coating for corrosion resistant. 2017-18.
6. Mr. Pradyumn Sharma had developed “Insulating Varnish based on CNSL resin” in 2016-17 & 2017-18.
The post graduate programme ( M. Tech in Chemical Technology – Paint Technology) which was discontinued from 1996-97 session has been proposed to restart from 2019-20. Due to high demand from application and manufacturing sectors the seats in the programme is also under revision to 45 from 30 at entry level. There is a proposal for new building and laboratories for the department. The department has a proposal of educational tie up with the foreign universities for exchange (student & Faculty) programme and for different academic collaboration for the students. In view at this faculty representative from Eastern university (EMD) USA, visited the department.

LAB-1:TESTING & EVALUATION LAB (UG – I)
Practical Courses for B.Tech. students, based on Testing of Raw Materials like resins, pigments, oils etc., as well as Finished Products are conducted in UG Lab. Also students learn to prepare various kind of pigments, resins and paints in this lab. Lab is well-equipped with instruments used to carry out various tests on raw materials as well as paints.
LAB-2:PROJECT LAB (UG – II)
B.Tech. and M.Tech.students do experiments related to their project-work and Ph.D. students carry out out experimental work related to their research projects. This lab is well-equipped with machinery used in manufacture of various types of paints as well as instruments used for testing.
LAB-3: CENTRAL INSTRUMENTAL LAB
This lab is equipped with various advanced instruments used for analysis and evaluation of raw materials and paints, mainly used by Ph.D. students for their research work.

We have expert Professors in different areas of surface coatings who undertake time to time the training programmes for staff and faculty members of educational institutions such as Institute of Research, Development & Training (IRDT), and Government of Uttar Pradesh. The Department is a government approved centre for testing of products related to paints and allied industries, such as Paints, Lacquers, Printing Inks, Adhesives etc. The reputed companies and government organization such as Rites; Kansai Nerolac Paints, Berger Paints India Ltd. and several local small & medium scale companies have been provided authentic reports on their several products.
3. Seminar Hall with ICT Facility
Department has a Smart Classroom cum Seminar Hall (Room No. 2-201) equipped with audio-visual; computer-projector fitted smart board, with sound box, where teaching-learning by Audio-visual means can be facilitated. PPT’s can be shared by Invited speakers as well as faculty of The Department. YouTube videos, lectures available on NPTEL/MOOC and other online resources can also be shared with students.
4. Computers and other devices for the use of Faculty and Students
Department has 03 Nos. computers exclusively for the use of students. Apart from this faculty members also have computers, printers/ scanners, webcams, audio devices, etc., so as to enable them in their day-to-day work as well as to attend online webinars and take online classes.

During 2017-2022 two BoS Meetings were conducted, in 2017-18 and 2019-20. Syllabus revision to the extent of 20% was done in 28 courses of Curriculum.
